About the monastery
Nestled beautifully amidst the mystifying environment, Tiger’s Nest Monastery is the most famous monastery of Bhutan. The splendid visual appeal attracts tourists from far and wide. Perched at an altitude of 3,120 meters above sea level, the Tiger’s Nest Monastery has a story behind it. It is believed that Guru Rinpoche or Padmasambhava flew onto this cliff riding a tigress and meditated in the Taktsang Senge Samdup cave for time immemorial.

The entire complex of the monastery consists of seven temples. The majestic beauty of the monastery is not the only thing worth appreciating; in fact one can also participate in the ongoing festivals of the Paro Valley.

Getting to the monastery
The way to the monastery is not an easy hike, and it takes pilgrims two hours to reach the monastery. There are numerous cafes located along the hiking trails where one can relax and enjoy some light refreshments.
While majority of the distance to the temple can be covered on mules, there is a certain distance needs to be covered on foot. The journey to the shrine is as breathtaking as the view from the top. It is a thrilling experience to climb the ladders towards heaven layered with Pines, junipers, algae-festooned every inch of the way, spotting the occasional red-robed monks hurrying for the evening prayers and above all the Tiger nest monastery.
