Paro
Extending from the confluence of the Paro Chhu and the Wang Chhu rivers, the Paro Valley is one of the widest valleys in the kingdom and is covered in fertile rice fields. With beautiful, crystalline river meandering down the valley, the elegant and traditional style houses accentuate the natural beauty of the region.One of the distinctive features of Paro town is that it is situated in a flat valley bottom and follows a grid-like pattern.
Attractions
Taktsang Monastery - While talking about the major attractions of Paro, the name of Taktsang Monastery remains on top. Peacefully located on the edge of a high cliff, the monastery remains the unofficial symbol of Bhutan. An escapade to the monastery takes around 2-3 hours, which is a beautiful journey altogether.
Rimpung Dzong - For the worshippers of architecture, Rimpung Dzong remains a must visit place. This huge fortress exhibits the finest example of Bhutanese architecture. Acting as a place of worship, the dzong can be accessed by crossing a traditional covered bridge. The famous Paro Tshechu Festival is organized here.
Drukgyel Dzong - Another wonderful gem of Paro is Drukgyel Dzong, commemorating the victory of Bhutan over the invading Tibetan forces. Though most parts of the fort are in ruins today, the views of the surrounding nature from here are surely overwhelming.
National Museum of Bhutan - Loved by travelers due to its legendary past, the National Museum of Bhutan exhibits a rich collection of old coins, stamps, ancient weapons and Bhutanese art and artifacts.
Chele La Pass - Spend some moments of peace away from the crowd at the Chele La Pass. Here you will be welcomed by numerous frozen rivers, waterfalls, alpine flowers and snow.

How to Reach Paro
Paro houses an international airport which is only 7 kilometres away from the city. From here, numerous taxi services are available to reach the destination of your choice. Those taking road travel can board a bus from Phuntsholing Bus Stand to Paro.
