Amritsar

History seekers must visit Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar where the historic Amritsar Massacre of 1919 took place. On April 13, 1919, British Army soldiers opened fire on unarmed people here leaving more than 1,500 injured, with approximately 1,000 dead. The walls of Jallianwala Bagh still bear bullet marks which give goose bumps to all visitors.
Also, do not miss the very inspiring Wagah Border ceremony which is conducted on the road border crossing between India and Pakistan. This illustrious ceremony shows lowering of the flags along with shouts of patriotism. Visiting here is a gripping experience for all.
Amritsar is also a wonderful city for shopping lovers. The city is blessed with a range of local markets brimming with vibrant clothes, footwear, food items, handicrafts, krippan, etc. Hall Bazaar is one of the oldest marketplaces here which can be explored on the way of Golden Temple. Guru Bazaar is great for jewellery shopping. Those who wish to buy phulkari items must visit Katra Jaimal Singh Bazaar.
